...and boy are my arms tired

All of me is tired, actually. I feel like I'm dragging a hundred pound weight behind me. Jet lag will do that to a person. We got back last Tuesday and I still don't feel normal, but there are a few reasons for that other than nine time zones.

The first four weeks of our holiday were great. The last two not so great.

I had a wicked, wicked colitis flare-up that continues to make me miserable. Of course we were camping at the time which made it so much fun. 25 pounds down now but not in a good way. Doctor's appointment tomorrow to get myself sorted out.

To add to that, a few days before we left to go back to Germany my mother had a small stroke and had to be hospitalized for two nights. She is doing well but had another episode on our day of departure (we were already in the air at the time and only found out later) and had to go to hospital again for several hours. Now we just need to make sure she takes her medication as prescribed and stays calm. Thank goodness one of my brothers is there to look after things or else I might not have come back as scheduled.

So as you can imagine I am not in the best of blogging moods although I suppose it would be a good distraction from all the stressors going on right now. I have lots of pictures and will try to get some up some time soon.

Do what I do ... just concentrate on those first four weeks.

Sorry to hear about your illness woes. Something like that happening when you should be enjoying yourself is really not very nice at all.

Think of the good and smile when things are bad. I understand how hard that must be loosing 25 lbs the hurtful way! Ouch...

Hope everyone will be back on the mend including your jet lag! Water water water if you can!

Ohhhh, Christina. I am so sorry...for you AND for your mom. I'm sending you both my best wishes for healing and well-being. I'm guessing most of us can stand to lose some weight but...25 lbs?! My guess its that's NOT good! Alsjeblieft, doe voorzichtig.

Welcome home.
25 pounds eh? Oh, Christina, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope the doctor can get you back on track. And, I hope your Mother is doing much better today.

I was going to do a knock, knock, anybody home comment and I'm glad I didn't. I missed your posts so just know that I care and hope you're tip top again soon. I look forward to the photos.

Oh Christina, that's more than a double whammy. Snooker had fabulous advice - feel better soon in every way. And my best wishes that your mom and her doctor's (and you and yours!) can get on top of this as soon as possible

Oh dear, I'm sorry for all the health problems you and your mom are facing. It's good to hear from you again, and also to know that the first four weeks of your trip went great. Can't wait to hear more about it -- after you're feeling better and over your jet lag, right?

Thinking of you Christina...I know how hard it is to have an ill parent but it's much worse for you being so far away. My cousin in Chicago is going through the same thing right now with her Mom who lives in Germany. Very high stress...ciao

Hi Christina,
I'm very sorry to hear about those last two weeks, and hope you and your mother are on the mend soon. For the jet lag at least maybe I can offer a bit of advice... have you ever tried melatonin? I picked up a bottle of pills at a store in the States a while back. On my last two trips over the Atlantic I tried it out and it worked great.

Welcome back :)

Sorry to hear about your mom.

Oh, and I now know what jet lag across 9 time zones is like and you'll be glad to know that you are not alone. It kicked my butt much more than the usual 6 time zone jet lag does.

Get well soon.

I hope your Mom is feeling better and that you are as well.
I'm finding that utter exhaustion is helping my jet lag- when given quiet and a flat surface, I just fall over- but with the kids, we are still trying to move the bedtime back to what school will be requiring next week.
Hope the rest is helping.

I am so sorry to hear that you have not been feeling weel and that your mother has been in the hospital. I understand how hard it is to be away when family isn't well. However, you have to deal with your own health as well. Do take care. xxxooo
