Oooh, long time no blog, eh? I'm OK, just not that OK. A brief update on that at the end of this post.
I don't know what I was thinking having two babies with birthdays only 11 (or 12, depending on the year!) days apart. Having my husband's birthday fall smack in the middle just added to the hilarity.
We all know that even if I'm not really feeling 100%, if I can stand up, I can bake. And bake I did. Nothing fancy, but the guys got their money's worth, I think.
The kid-formerly-known-as-Boy15 transformed himself into Boy16 on February 28. Whoo. No wild and crazy party this year, just a quiet dinner out with Oma and the rest of us, followed by some of the good stuff. The cherry cheesecake refused to be photographed. The chocolate chip muffins, on the other hand, were happy to take center stage.

Are you digging my new silicone muffin cups?
Chocolate Chip Muffins (from somewhere off the internet)
1 1/2 cups flour
1 T baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (I used some
Zartbitter-Schokoflocken I had hanging around)
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1/3 cup melted butter (vegetable oil works just as well)
1 egg
In large bowl mix flour, baking powder, salt and chocolate chips. In another bowl combine sugar, milk, butter/oil and egg and mix well. Add wet ingredients to dry and stir until moistened. Spoon into greased or lined muffin tins.Bake at 375°F/190°C for about 20 mins or until tops spring back when lightly pressed. Makes 12 regular sized muffins.
Next up was a rather cranky Mr. M who did not, not, not want to turn 47 on March 4. Who's middled ages? Nope, not him. A giant slice of
mandarin cheesecake eased his pain a bit.

And we all know that everything looks better when you've got a few
cinnamon buns under your belt.

And guess who turned 13 on March 11? My baby. You know, the one who used to sit on my lap and nestle his little head under my chin. He's a long tall drink of water these days, but he still likes a good hug now and then.
He wanted a layer cake with buttercream frosting. "You know, just like the ones in cartoons!", he said. I used
these two recipes and came up with this. He was pleased.

Sooo...with all the guy birthdays taken care of and both the boys well on their way to becoming fine upstanding young men, I can once again concentrate on obsessing about my health. I'm healing wonderfully well from the surgery and things are just as they should be in that respect, no regrets AT ALL. Unfortunately, though, I've developed a couple of other nagging issues that are being looked into. Probably not serious and certainly not blog worthy, but the jury's still out on what's to be done about feeling better again. Which I MUST do because we're spending the Easter holidays in Denmark and our departure date is only 12 days away. Wheee! Can't wait.
If you need me I'll be sitting in the recliner doing some positive thinking...
