putting the vent in Advent

The Christmas season is upon us. Last Sunday we lit the first candle on our Advent wreath.

and I bought a new Lichterbogen for the living room.

That was the fun part. Here's the vent.

I'm good and sick. A week and a half ago I got struck down by the worst head cold I've had in years. I think I caught it from Boy12. He sailed right through his whereas I'm still coughing up a storm. Bleh. Just a little sinusitis and bronchitis, no strep throat or pneumonia this time. That would have been lovely. Mr. M has banished himself for the duration.

The cold is also being aggravated by the tons of dust pouring out of the upstairs bathroom while my better half is hard at work chiseling the old tiles off the walls. There's no getting away from that stuff and guess who has a dust allergy? It makes me itch all over, it makes me cough, it makes me break out into a rash. Can you imagine how cranky I am right now?

And also? I think I have plantar fasciitis in both feet. They've been killing me lately but it comes and goes and seems to switch sides a lot. Some days it's fine, some days it's awfully painful to walk. The internet told me to do calf stretches and that seems to help quite a bit. I'm keeping an eye on it.

So if you see someone hobbling along sniffling into a kleenex and hacking up a lung, that will be me. Waaah waaah waaah.

Oh well, Saturday is St. Nicholas Day. Hopefully all the chocolate I'll find in my stocking will make me feel better.

You poor dear ... sounds like you need to stay home by the fire and nibble on a few of those chocolates rather than hobbling and sneezing about in the cold.

Hope you feel better.

Oh Christina! I feel for you. I'm at the tale end of my flu. And I had plantar a few weeks back. You are correct about stretches and if you have insoles that helps! Also I know warmth and resting the muscles helps..

Hope you feel better fast!!! You've got dust and we've got smoke that comes out of our vents... Yuck!

Ahh, I hope you feel better soon. Boy12 should make you a nice cup of tea and supply you with chocolate for bringing you home a cold.

And the foot thing, I had that after I had surgery on my heel. It hurts but the stretches do make a big difference. Good luck!

The internet is now suggesting you make a nice stack of pancakes and smother it in maple syrup and a little butter, crisp bacon on the side optional. :-)

Get well soon...

Speaking as someone who ishobbling and has caused permanent damage- go to a foot dr and get orthotics before you develop a heel spur that requires you to return to the US for an operation!
I am holding off, but it has been 7 months and I am still in pain...

Aww... Mausi. I'm really sorry to hear you are feeling badly.
Speaking as a person with both dust allergies and plantar fasciitis, I say that the prescription is many calf stretches (especially in the morning), LOTS of chocolate and I like Maribeth's idea of tea with lots of rum.
By the way, the pictures are awesome.

Happy Advent season, I too lit a candle. I had plantar fasciitis last year on just one heel. It lasted about 3 months and was worse first thing in the morning. Excercise helps for sure as do little soft heel pads. It does go away generally on its own at least mine did. Lots of chocolate always helps. For your cold, no advice you just have to suffer through it or maybe more chocolate...ciao:)

I always want to get a new Lichterbogen but since the only place I have available to put one on display is in the back bedroom I have no reason to buy a really pretty one. Yours is gorgeous!

I'm so sorry you're feeling lousy. Definitely not a good time of year for it but chocolate fixes everything.

Oooh, love your Lichterbogen -- so pretty. Sorry to hear you're sick -- I hope you feel better soon. And that's the third time in as many weeks that I've heard planter whatsits mentioned and I'd never even heard of it before. Hobbling myst be the new thing! (Sorry, I know it's not funny -- hope it heals soon.)

When I get a proper German cold the only thing that helps is inhaling. The pharmacies sell this clever little inhaling device that you pour hot water into and the real trick is to add a generous dollop of Transpulmin, which smells like Eucalyptis and kills off the nasty bugs.
