so much cake, so little time

Today's motto was "45, still alive". But just barely. Middle age (why yes, I do plan on making it into my 90's) has been catching up with me lately and I wasn't really in a birthday mood at all. Mother-in-law came over early afternoon for cake and after she left I ended up having to take a little nap to make it through until dinner time! Grilled salmon and shrimp were on the menu tonight. Yum.

We'll be leaving for Vancouver in just under 7 weeks and in anticipation of that great event I received a shiny new digital camera from the men in my life. Boy12 outdid himself wrapping it up. More details to come.

Here, have some cake while you're waiting...

vanilla yogurt squares

fruit salad cake

I may be tired, but I can still bake!

What great cakes! You need to post the rcipe for the yogurt one when you have time. Also, a question- my mother-in-law buys the tart bottoms at the store and I just can't believe that's the best way to do it. Do you make it yourself or buy it? And do you put that purchased glaze over it?Is it good?
Happy Birthday!

Happy belated birthday. It's still May 25 here, so I have a few hours to go on my birthday. Had the kids and grandkids over for brunch and it was great. Now I'm waiting for hubby to grill the steaks and corn-on-the-cob. Yum! I just wish I could say I was 45 - my forties were great years. The 60s not so much, what with all the aches and pains that come and go.

Happy Birthday!
Sometimes I can buy the sponge bottom at the local Piggly Wiggly. Most of the time if I bake it myself, I want to slam my sponge pan against the wall, since it comes out almost always crocked and uneven! Yours looks awesome, wonder which one you had? Anyhoo, I have the bowl to the glass plate with the tree on it...;)

g - Thanks! Are you sure you want the recipe? There's also half a bucket of whipping cream in there. :-)

This time I made the cake base myself - I find the store bought ones to be kind of dry and tasteless. The glaze is that Tortenguss stuff which is basically gelatine or starch or something that you mix with sugar and fruit juice.

rositta - Thank you! They tasted pretty good.

renate - What, MORE aches and pains that I have now? I can't imagine what I'll be like in 15 years but I'm trying to keep everything from falling apart. :-)

maria - A big squishy box of old stuff - wouldn't that be a surprise!

Silvia - I have a pan from Kaiser that I bought a while ago and the cake did stick a bit and I had to cut some off the bottom, but it turned out OK in the end. I think we got that glass plate as a wedding present many, many years ago.

pippa - thank you so much! We're going to make the most of summer this year.

mar - Thanks! :-)

lurking Lisa - yeah, sometimes I'd like to trade myself in for a newer model.

helen - Thanks for dropping by!

Andrea - There's still some left but I'm sure it will be gone by this evening.

ian - Thanks! Oh yeah, I'll probably take about 10,000 pictures to bore everyone with.

swisstwist - thank you! I didn't realize you were blogging again.

regina - Oh no, I didn't mind at all! Thanks again.

antipo - thank you, darling. There are tons of us May babies about and all of us just as unique as can be. A big Happy B'day to Popo too!

maribeth - Aww, with your attitude you're never going to get old, my dear.

J - Thanks, my friend. I hope your internet connection woes are over soon. Could they be any slower?

Yes- when you have a chance... although I tend to do a lot of cream substitution with plain yogurt mixed with milk or with plain milk. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... I'm hoping that if I'm kind to my cholesterol (in this land of fat) that it may be kind to me...
