breathtaking, isn't it?

Not really surprising news to many of us...

Home to Germany's steel and coal industries, the area between Amsterdam and Frankfurt is the most polluted in Europe, scientists said. German researchers in Bremen based their findings on new, unique satellite data.

Well, I guess that explains this nagging cough.

It isn't surprising. Sad, but not surprising.

maribeth - Yeah, I always thought Belgium was the worst. But maybe they'll start doing something about it now. :-)

diane - I've had a lot of respiratory problems since I moved here and it's not hard to see why. Luckily we live east of the really bad area, but still...

I think it was just a year ago when your Chancellor was trying to tell us in North America that we were the worst, guess not...

Off topic somewhat: I watched a documentary about Beijing and their air pollution is horrible. I fear the athlete's will get very sick this summer going there to compete. I know China has spent alot of money building stuff for these olympics, but I wonder if it shouldn't be boycotted not just because of Tibet, but because of health risks.
I lived in AZ in the 90s and was always sick. I found out two years ago that I am allergic to dust. No wonder I was miserable there.

I hope you find a doc that can treat your problems effectively. I wish you good health.

I knew we were one of the worst and I have had a cough for the past year. I guess the tip off was the fact that we have smog warning day when they lower the speed limits to reduce co2... yuck.

Well even the Germans refer to Bochum as 'coalpot' - but it is still about 5000 times better than downtown cairo.

pollution is always a relative thing.

around here, near Ludwigshafen, the saying goes "if it snows in summer, BASF is responsible. again."

I'm so depressed about this ... Antwerp just fits into the red circle of filth.

I haven't been well since arriving in Belgium ... reading this just made me want to leave immediately. It seems like they care more about money and so-called progress in Germany and Belgium than they do about human life ... god only knows what this does to the children. I read that the heavy pollution actually affects brain development.
