attention carnivorous discount shoppers!

Not the blue light special at K-Mart this time, just a short customer safety announcement:

Aldi Süd is recalling their Hudeck brand Premium Tex Mex Frikadelle 500g with a best before date up to March 20, 2008. Small splinters of glass(!) were apparently found in the meat patties by several Aldi Süd customers and the whole range of 'Tex Mex' products has now been removed from the shelves. Aldi Nord products are not affected.

Customers may receive a full refund by returning the product to an Aldi Süd store and a toll-free information hotline has been set up - call 0800-3335445.

You just never know, do you?

That is all.

Yeah, I hate these recalls. I get so scared sometimes. I guess it's why I do mostly scratch cooking these days.

maribeth - yes, really scary. I think it was only 3 packages out of thousands - must have been some kind of mishap at the factory maybe but it still makes you wonder what other kind of stuff falls in when they're not looking. I too, really like to know what's in my food. :-)

What is in this Tex Mex line of food? Jalapenos, beef, tomatoes and beans? Or pork?

Uff, I hate food recalls too.

O-oh... I better check my freezer.... No wait... We don't even have an Aldi nearby. LOL! And like you, I prefer to cook from scratch, so I think we're safe

Thanks for the warning. Of course I've learned to steer clear of anything labeled Tex or Mex in Germany. Yuck!

What's up with all these recalls? I heard on the radio the other day that they just had the largest beef recall ever here in the US. Maybe we should all move to a remote canadian village and raise our own beef.

Real Texans would eat it with the glass in it.

betty - Well usually anything they call Mexican has corn thrown into it. And sweet tasting salsa. And yes, pork.

Di - A bit alarming to be sure.

CanSwiss - We have Aldi Nord so I guess we're safe. And I despise pre-made Frikadellen anyway because you NEVER know what's in them.

Diane - Yuk is right. Much better to make your own stuff.

thimbleanna - I just read about the beef recall too and Germany has certainly had its share of meat scandals. You wonder how all this stuff gets through to the consumer.

Pam - Heh. You're right about that. :-)
