water water everywhere
We had beautiful weather the whole two weeks we were in Denmark. Not all that warm, about 16°C during the day on average, but just right with a sweatshirt and a light jacket.
Egsmark Strand (Egsmark Beach), on the Baltic Sea was less than half a kilometer away from our house so we spent lots of time at the beach looking for shells, picnicking and letting the wind blow our hair around.
You really have your choice of beaches in Denmark - as well as the Jutland peninsula where Ebeltoft is located, there are 443 named islands and no location in Denmark is farther from the coast than 52 kilometres.
Ahl Strand was about a 15 minute drive away and a different sort of beach altogether. Great for beachcombing and surfing in warmer weather. We even found a fossilized sea urchin!
I can still smell the salty air...

I like the smell of the sea, too. I hope one day to visit Danemark, Norway,Finland....
poppy fields - The smell reminds me so much of my childhood. Makes it feel like home. I'd love to visit the rest of Scandinavia too some day.
Isn't being on the ocean the best? Looks like a great trip. Denmark is definitely on my 'to-do' list :)
oh the ocean.. I wish we could live at the sea... Denmark looks beautiful
Often, when we go to Holland, we go to one of the beaches there. I love the scent of the salty air, but I wish there were a bit less tourism at the NL beaches; more like Denmark.
I grew up near the ocean, and suppose I loose appreciation for it from time to time. I can't imagine ever living very far from the water. Oh, and I'm glad to see those wind turbines....doesn't look so bad. They actaully looks nice. There is a HUGE debate on the Cape (Cape Cod, MA) about putting a wind farm off the coast. Love your photos.
Very pretty! B's a big fan of the beaches on the Baltic Sea - wide and pretty.
Fabulous pics, Christina, and I can see why it reminded you of home! I love seeing this through your eyes. Thanks.
Alison - Oh yes, I love being on the ocean and I'm sure you guys would love Denmark. It's adorable.
lillian - I spent the first 27 years of my life just a stone's throw away from the ocean so I REALLY miss it now.
CSwiss - I think it gets a lot more crowded during the summer - there are 7,000 vacation homes in the area for rent, but we were lucky to have the place practically to ourselves at this time of year.
ossy - Yep, you definitely don't know what you've got until it's gone. I also grew up by the ocean and kind of took it for granted until I moved here. There are also a ton of wind turbines in Germany and a lot of controversy to go along with them. Some people have them practically in their backyards and the noise and the shadows they cast can drive on almost insane.
Dixie - It's so nice and shallow, not too much tide movement and very peaceful unless a bit storm comes up. I've never been to the North Sea, I'd like to see what's that like in contrast.
ginnie - Yes, the beaches were quite similar although you don't get the giant waves like you do on Vancouver Island during the storms. Beautiful blue colour too.
It all reminds me of summers at home, around southern Vancouver Island.
runaway rubber duckie - Absolutely! Very much like the beaches around Victoria where I spent my university days.
This sounds like the perfect vacation! I love the ocean too and was really really happy to be in the north for easter too! Have a good start back at home.
The weather looks like it was lovely. Our weather is absolutely terrible; it is cold and windy like a hurricane tonight!
and it must be the most amazing feeling that smell - relaxing
Ah, spending time at the beach can be so much fun! I especially loved the times I arrived so early that I had the beach to myself and could in perfect quietness watch the sun rise. So calming and peaceful.
Nothing like the salt air to give you a good hair day. I love living in Europe, but our beaches here in Sydney are glorious. Wonderful pictures - you totally captured the essence of the seaside.
amazing pics! Now that does sound like a great vacation!
