Arrivederci Germania

Italy just won 2:0. Oh well. It was a great game.

Germany still has a chance to make 3rd place on Saturday.

It was so sad. I actually feel pretty bad about it. Whoda thunk

Jen - I know, it is really sad, but I kind of had a feeling it would happen. Not nice to see grown men cry.

I gotta say, I had a sinking feeling this afternoon. I only hope that France will take down Portugal and then Italy in the finale.

I nearly cried. I wish they'd had a chance to go to penalties. I can't stand it that they lost in the final minute.

Fussball can be gruesome, eh?

I cried and cried when it was over. I was so heartbroken for those guys. They played their hearts out. If we could have held on for two more minutes I think things would have been so different.

Yup! We watched the game here in Atlanta and were heart-broken for those guys. To have gone so long and then have not just one but TWO goals scored against them, one right after the other, must have crushed them. Sigh. Good to know they can at least try for 3rd place on Saturday.

It was a very good game they played. Probably the best I've seen. Let's hope that they'll make 3rd place.

Shame about Germany, they had deserved more... But now I keep my fingers crossed for Portugal (normally a complete kiss of death for any team, but still).

It was the second goal that was the real kick in the teeth. I've sworn off pizza for life (ok, a week...)

It was a good fight but someone always has to lose. My brother-in-law was inconsolable. He sees some deeper meaning in it all and somehow this includes the coming end of the world.

It was a great game. Germany was too confident that they could win the pk battle and never pressed the attack.

it is really sad but Germany made it a lot farther than what people thought at the beginning of the World Cup. I am a lot more relaxed now to watch the next games, there is always a postive thing to everything...

Mrs. TBF is happy because "her people" won! I, on the other hand, just sat around reading blogs and looking up every five minutes or so to see if the score was still "nil nil"! I'm sorry...I guess I lived in America for too long...I find the soccer boring.

guerrilla - Hey, thanks for stopping by. My psychic powers are also telling me that France may just win the whole thing. We'll see.

cathy - It would have been great to see them make it to the end, but they did such a great job anyway.

Dixie - Those sudden goals were such a surprise to everyone, I think.

ginnie - It was heartbreaking to see them all so sad, but they'll get over it and move on to bigger and better things. They're heros in Germany now.

CS - Well, we'll see how Portugal does.

tobias - The Germany vs Portugal game will be *very* interesting. Thanks for visiting, BTW. I'll have to check out your blog in more detail later.

eurotrippen - We had spaghetti for dinner that night. Ooops. :-)

megan - Some people were SO upset. It's going to take a while before we can tell them it's only a game.

Philip - The resident soccer expert! I don't have a clue about strategy but you could see that they weren't giving their best.

Mar - Yes, there's not so much tension now and it doesn't *really* matter who wins, although people like to think it does. The whole thing has really brought Germany together though.

TBF- Well yeah, it's not exactly the most exciting thing in the world to watch, but since I never watch any other sports I don't have a comparison. Boy, you're never going to hear the end of it from Mrs. TBF if Italy wins in the end. :-)
