up before 7, in bed by 11

The kids started school again today after two weeks Easter holidays and we're back to the old routine. The "in bed by 11" is a goal of mine that comes with the realization that I can't stay up until 2 a.m. and expect to be a happy camper a few hours later when it's time to get everyone up. My very wise mother always says, "You can't take care of anyone else if you don't take care of yourself first." She's right. And last night I WAS actually in bed by 11:30. Whoo. Falling asleep is another matter but I'm working on that.

I'm also taking today to work on my distance learning German/English translation course. I'm determined to finish the next assignment today and get it sent off to my tutor for evaluation. I only have until July to finish up the course or else they'll kick me out of the program without a certificate and I've been taking FAR too long to get it done. We're talkin' years here, not months. Oh well. Must put my nose to the grindstone now.

Having trouble falling asleep? I find that a small shot of heroin puts me right out.

That might not be for everybody, though...

mr. fab - Umm, I'm not quite sure that would fit into the healthy lifestyle I'm striving for, but if it works for you...:-)

ohh falling asleep is one of my huge problems as well. I find taking some calcium before going to bed REALLY helps. It helps you to relax and releive stress. That is why they say drink milk before bed, except it makes you pee at two am!! lol
and congrats on a one year birthday. I cant beleive it is only one!!! You have done such an amazing job with this blog!!!

Andrea - Good tip about the calcium tip. I always have to pee at exactly 3:30 a.m. anyway, so I could go for the warm milk.

And thanks for the compliment! :-)

HaHa. I love the comments. Sad to say but it doesn't get better as you grow older--getting to sleep or having to pee way before it's time to get up. Oh well. At least we're still alive :)

Oh I hope you finish this course!!! Good luck, less blogging... (I suppose)

Are you doing an AKAD course? I was a financial and legal translator for four years but only have German and PolySci degrees. I debated taking the course but decided there was no way I could do it AND work full time as a translator. How is it going?

I fall asleep fine, I just wake up around 3.30 - 4am and can't fall asleep again until 6 am. Our alarm goes off at 6.30!

My Ex had a saying for the times we were up very early (for no apparent reason): "Senile Bettflucht". Unfortunately, there's no "nice translation" for "Bettflucht" (fleeing your bed)in English. :-)

You definitely don't want sleep help from me. I don't usually get to bed before 3 or 4am.

ginnie - I know! If I'm this bad now, I wonder what I'll be like in 20 years! :-)

expat - It hasn't really been the blogging that's taken time away from it, just general procrastination. I'm awful at finishing what I start.

sally It's a kind of introductory certificate course from a school in Ireland. It's going fine, I'm just lazy. :-)

canadianswiss - Bettflucht. Heh. Sounds kind of like Fahrerflucht. I do that too sometimes - waking up at 4 and just lying there listening to the birds chirping. Lots of fun!

dixie - Wow, that's pretty late/early! I like going to bed late, it's just the getting up at 6:30 part that I hate and there's no way around that.

The last couple of years I am finding that being in bed by 11pm is a good thing. Also I am getting up earlier all the time. It bugs me a bit though. What happened to that young chap ho never turned in before 2am and never got out of bed before midday? :)
