is she STILL talking?

April 18, 2005 - Mausi gets tired of just reading and commenting on other people's blogs and after some careful research into the way these things work (What? Blogger is free and any idiot can figure it out? Oh, OK then), decides to launch her own weblog.

One year. Wow, I don't think I've ever stuck with anything for that long before. Except maybe for being married, but that's mostly due to inertia, I'd say. Ha ha.

Starting a blog changed my life. Who says that the internet is a cold, faceless, impersonal place? In the past year I've met - both virtually and in person - some of the kindest, funniest, most interesting people I could ever hope to know. They've shown me that we're all in it together, that no one needs to feel lonely or isolated, that there's always someone out there who understands, even if no one in 'real life' seems to. They've shown me that people with completely different opionions and beliefs can get along famously if they just give each other a chance.

One thing I especially love is the interaction that goes on in the comments section of most blogs. What makes a blog, especially an expat blog, attractive for me is knowing that there's a real person behind the writing, a person who isn't just interested in getting his or her own stuff out into the blogosphere but who is also able to learn and grow through the contributions of other bloggers. It's a give and take thing, a networking thing. You scratch my back, I scratch yours.

I've enjoyed my first year of blogging more than I ever thought I would. It's been a fantastic experience getting to know you all.

If you guys keep reading, I'll keep writing. Deal?

Deal.
You said it well, and I feel exactly the same way. If I didn't blog and someone tried to explain it to me, I just wouldn't understand. It is a really wonderful thing to feel connected to people a world away.
Keep on truckin', Christina. I love reading your blog.

I love reading your blog, too.
There might be a person who hurt you by reading your blog. But I think that the people who love reading your blog are very more than that.
Of course, I’m also one of them.
For me, your blog can learn the foreign cultures, events and life, etc. Before all, your blog is bright, enjoyable, and interesting.
I love photograph of your profile, too♪
Don’t stop, please.

Best regards
Nori

I am waiting to find out about the pheasant's demise too!

I wish I could stick to my diet as good as I stick to my blog, maybe if my thighs and butt gave me comments I would:)

Christina - happy blog birthday. I didn't realize it's only been a year. Maybe because I've practically read your blog from the start or something.. I'd so agree that we learn things. I think it's a way to gain friends and help us cope with things that we can't find in our own little world.

Can't wait for more. :)

You nailed it, C. That's about the best explanation I've read as to why we love blogging. And you didn't even need to mention "up-skirt" photos.

Happy paper anniversary.

Sandra - Aww, thanks - I love reading your blog too.

ellasdevil - Ευχαριστίες!

caligirl - Thanks so much.

Wendy - LOL! A stuffed peasant would be even better! I better check and see if we have one of those too. :-)

Duncan - There's no getting rid of me now!

Nori- You are so sweet. Thank you for all the compliments. I think you need to start a blog of your own so we can all come and read it. :-)

Kim - Yeah, if only we had a cheering section for the things that are really hard to stick to!

Expat - The year went SO fast. I can't remember when I found your blog but it must have been early on.

Elemm - Well, in two weeks you'll be all better and able to eat lots of cake!

Sal, Great minds think alike. :-) But wait, there are blogs featuring "up skirt" photos? I lead such a sheltered life.

Thanks, Claire - I'm sure glad I found your blog. Someone who actually lives in the same state as I do.

CanadianSwiss - Okey dokey! I'm typing as fast as I can. :-)

Happy Blog Birthday! I know how you feel. I told TBF that I would just read and comment on other people's blogs...but then I decided to write a little too...but just sharing the same blog with TBF. Who knows - maybe I'll branch out and have my own blog one day and not just write on TBF's.

SwissTwist - thanks so much!

jen - I can't tell you how glad I am to have met you. Well, actually I CAN tell you, and I have. :-)

Expat - Thanks! I must have driven over that bridge a million times.

katja - Thanks for dropping by!

Mrs. TBF - Yeah, eventually you start getting itchy fingers and just have to write something. You should defintely start your own blog so we can get to know more about the woman behind that great big Finn! :-)

Just kidding.

Wishing you a hundred more years of blogging. I'm glad that you started it because otherwise we probably would have never met, either online or in person.

Keep talking!

YES, she's still talking! Are you kidding? You're one of the main reasons so many of us keep coming back. Mother Hub (I think I've said that before and will surely say it again). Happy Birthday/Anniversary. May you have many more to come. Too bad I'm a day late but it just means I mean it more today than yesterday :)

Deal! Discovering your blog was one of the luckiest things that ever happened to me. You've no idea how miserable and alienated I was before. I still love reading because I learn something new all the time, and it's always interesting. The one complaint I have is that after you post those delicious meal pics I always feel hungry and have to go graze. However, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. :) Here's hoping this blog and its authoress keep going strong for many years to come.
