eat more fish!

Well, recent studies have shown that not only is the so-called Mediterranean Diet good for your heart, it may also help in preventing Alzheimer's. That's good news to us since Alzheimer's runs in Mr. M's family. Most of the time we try to eat healthful foods, and on the weekend I think we succeeded for the most part. If you disregard those pesky chocolate bunnies, of course.

On Saturday we had Atlantic salmon with bacon-wrapped spring vegetables and roasted potatoes with lashings of olive oil. It was sooo good.

I think the vegetables were the best part. I'd never prepared them that way before and everyone loved them. Each little bundle was made up of thin pieces of carrot, cucumber, kohlrabi and fennel all wrapped up in a small piece of bacon and sauteed for a few minutes and then sprinkled with freshly ground black pepper. I'm hoping that all that beta carotene cancelled out the bacon a bit.

And what's on the menu for tonight? Not very health conscious, I'm afraid. It's a toss up between bratwurst and penne in gorgonzola sauce. Which do you think could do the most damage?

You could probably do the most damage by combining them.

Hmmm, that sure looks like a lotta work. I hope those fellas you live with appreciate you. The penne in gorgonzola sounds good. An easy & delicious pasta meal that I love is penne, splashed with olive oil, then grate some parmesan over it and throw on a handful of diced sundried tomatoes. Yummeh.

I think just about anything you cook has Magic in it, Christina, which probably means you don't have to worry! Were you ever a restaurant cook in a past life? Your presentation is everything!

Why be choosy? Do'em both.

Although, I'm not a fish fan, salmon is definitely one I like. Looks great! But, I also love the penne in gorgonzola sauce!

oh, and, I'm all for combining the wurst and the penne and the gorgonzola, but maybe you could just rub each of the penne with the bratwurst (or even every other penne) before cooking them - to impart the "essence" of bratwurst without all the other pesky side effects a bratwurst can bring to your life.

Any spinach in the penne in gorgonzola? 'Cause you know if there's spinach in it it completely cancels out the bad in the gorgonzola.

That salmon and veggie dish looks delicious. I can't get B to eat fish so I save it for when he's eating something I can't bear to eat (and with Spargelzeit here there's going to be a lot of that while his mother stuffs him with lots of asparagus and meatballs in cream sauce) but I'm definitely going to try the veggie bundles. I love kohlrabi.

Dinner looks divine! I really need more fish in my diet but I just don't know how to cook it. My mom use to alway make the best fried fish.

You lost me on this post. I hate, hate, hate all things seafood. It isn't from a lack of trying, I just can't stand the taste. Imagine living 20mins from the Sea and hating seafood!

Shhh don't tell the Italians, but I also hate olives! hehehe.

I am not quite sure if the bacon wrapped around the veggies didn't cancel out the healthiness of the fish....... ;-P

I hope my husband never sees your blog otherwise he'll start expecting 5 star cooking like this from me. The fish dish looks quite pretty even though I don't eat fish. LOL

Yowza... to think, I consider it 'gourmet cooking' if I sprinkle a little extra cheese on top of mini-pizzas.

When are you doing the Mausi Cookbook?

Better yet if someone organized a blogging culinary expo, with a week of recipes and related tales from bloggers around the world.
