and who's going to yell at the kids?

I'm sick.

I've lost my voice.

I could feel something brewing all week and yesterday it finally revealed itself as some kind of weird cold that isn't quite a cold but drives you nuts anyway - fatigue, endlessly annoying dry cough, swollen airways, hoarseness, blocked ears and a cotton-wool brain. And my joints hurt. As usual. Very nice. I apparently spent the night snoring and coughing in Mr. M's face, so to get some sleep the poor guy has retreated to the guest room for the time being. Which will probably only be until Monday because I WILL be better by then.

Moving right along, we got a Christmas card from my parents today with a picture of the inukshuk my dad built in their garden recently. He had been promising the kids he'd make one for them so they're all excited to see it next summer.

If you read the definition at Wikipedia, you'll notice that this isn't an inukshuk at all, but is in fact an inunguak. And it's this type of inunguak that has been chosen as the emblem for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. It seems like such a cool logo, I had no idea there was so much controversy surrounding it.

But what's life without a little controversy?

I hope you are feeling better soon!
We built an inukshuk, too. I'll post a photo of it some time. The one your father built is wonderful.

I think it's overwhelmingly sweet that your dad did this for your boys. I'm going to look at Cathy's too.

Interesting post! The inukshuk is familiar to me - I've seen the symbols somewhere and photos - but I never realized what they were for or what they symbolised. Thanks for once again educating us (remembering the moose/elk post)! :-)

That is cool!!! I'm going to show Rollie that, I am sure he will be making one in our garden soon.

Yes... I got the job as a dinner lady. I get to work w/ Jane :o) She is great fun.

Poor thing. That sounds more like a flu than just a plain ol' cold. If you have fever, I have a "grandma's recipe" from a nice lady in London. It worked for me. Just make sure your hubby prepares it and that you can sleep in a little the next day.

- 2 egg yolks
- a GOOD shot of whisky (or cognac)
- juice of 1/2 lemon
- Liquid honey (to yr taste)
- Little by little, add hot milk (Just hot - don't let it boil!!)
- Drink it while it's still as warm as you can take it while sitting on your bed -take my advice for that one - , sleep and get well. Best is if you can sleep in a bit the next day. You need the rest.

If you don't like hot milk, don't be afraid to try it. You'll see it tastes like hot egg nog. Well, unless you hate egg nog too ;-) Get well soon.

Hi Christina,

Get well soooo soon!
If you need someone to scream at the kids to suprise them, I volunteer to do it by phone.

Man, I love screaming at suprised kids :).

I lost my voice once and still went into work. The students thought they'd have a field day with me, but it's amazing what one can do with a whiteboard and boardmarkers.

I agree with CanadianSwiss' remedy above, although I'd suggest leaving out the egg yolks, lemon, honey and hot milk.

And remember, you can still yell at your kids without a voice. That's why we have middle fingers.
