Certainly better than my efforts on keeping Jen's plants alive...

Yeah, but my basil is totally dead so I'm not acting too proud!

Our tomatoes didn't turn out as well :( The really cold summer we've had over here and all that rain......they didn't get a chance to get very big or ripen on the vine. We plucked the semi-red ones and I'm ripening them on the kitchen window sill.

Next year!! Hah. I have ambitions lol.

Enjoy the fruits of your labour :D

Thanks, Belinda! Those ones took ages to ripen and there are still a lot of green ones on the vine along with some flowers that I doubt will turn into tomatoes any time soon. In the past I've had really bad luck with tomatoes so I'm happy to even get a few this year.

And you're right - there's always next year. Seems I've been saying that to myself for the past 15 summers!

Isn't that like the dream of every German family, to have a small kitchen garden? Congrats on making it work!

Try growing the cherry type ones. They ripen a lot quicker. Our first ones ripened end of July.
Congrats on your sucess this year!

Mr Haddock - those are the cherry ones - they just look big in the picture. I bought two plants that I thought were the same, but the tomatoes on one are much bigger than those on the other although they're in the same pot. Very mysterious.

thanks for the birthday wishes. We went for dinner at a great restaurant with a view overlooking the harbour and watched the sailboats go by; my now 11 month old slept the whole time and my four year old actually behaved himself, so it was a nice treat. We actually grew vegetables this year too; beans (which I would recommend to anyone; they are super easy to grow and yield a lot), tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers. My 4 year old enjoys picking them and eating them too!
Take care,
Cathy
